In just two North London derby games, Eze netted 5 goals against Tottenham, matching the records of Henry and Van Persie, confirming his new standing in Arsenal’s history.
Eberechi Eze continues to be a nightmare for Tottenham as he scored a brace in a 4-1 away victory, thereby equaling the North London derby goal-scoring records of legends Thierry Henry and Robin van Persie.
Earlier this season in the first leg, the English midfielder scored a hat-trick at Emirates Stadium, also in a 4-1 win. Thus, after just two matches facing Spurs wearing Arsenal’s colors, Eze has 5 goals, a figure that puts him on par with Henry and Van Persie in North London derbies, according to Opta statistics. He is now only behind Robert Pires’ record of 7 goals and Emmanuel Adebayor’s 6 goals.
Notably, Eze has only started 14 matches this season and has not played a full 90 minutes since November 23. His return to the starting lineup and immediate impact demonstrate his growing influence under coach Mikel Arteta.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, Eze said: “I always try to be in the right positions, find space, and work hard to get chances. It’s not easy to achieve that, but today everything went well. We did what we needed to do.”
When asked about his reaction after the disappointing draw against Wolves midweek, he affirmed: “We know what we are capable of. This team is built to control the game and win. These three points are very important, and we will keep moving forward.”
Eze also complimented teammate Viktor Gyokeres, who also scored twice: “Vik waited for that all match. He helps the team a lot, not just with goals but also with effort and how he puts me in good positions.”
Arsenal will face another London derby against Chelsea next week, while Spurs must seek points against Fulham to avoid falling deeper into the relegation battle.
