With Casemiro expected to leave Old Trafford at the end of the season, Manchester United is urged to invest heavily in signing an experienced midfielder capable of controlling and elevating the midfield immediately.
According to Metro, Casemiro’s confirmed departure from Manchester United at season’s end makes the midfield issue an urgent priority. Amid the squad’s rebuilding phase, former "Red Devils" striker Louis Saha believes the club needs a proven-class midfielder rather than relying solely on young talents, especially since controlling the game remains a significant weakness for the team.
Saha points out that Casemiro had to shoulder too many responsibilities over the past two seasons, leading to inconsistent performances. However, when his role became more defined this season, the Brazilian midfielder demonstrated the value of a world-class player. Therefore, Saha emphasizes that the replacement must possess similar experience and character, identifying Bruno Guimarães as that player.
In his comments, Saha particularly praises Bruno Guimarães – the star currently playing for Newcastle United. He describes the midfielder as a “midfield monster,” a player full of energy with the ability to manage the game’s tempo. According to Saha, this is a quality Manchester United still lacks during its generational transition.
The former star believes that combining Guimarães with young players would create an ideal balance. An experienced player alongside young talents not only stabilizes tactics but also helps develop their football intelligence, which is especially crucial as the club enters a long-term rebuilding phase.
Saha also mentions Sandro Tonali as an alternative option, but rates Guimarães higher due to his leadership qualities. He argues that Manchester United needs not only a skilled midfielder but also someone who can lead the team’s spirit, a factor that helped Casemiro have a strong influence in the dressing room.
Joining Newcastle in 2022 for £42 million, Guimarães quickly became a central figure under coach Eddie Howe and was appointed captain in 2024. His goal-scoring, assisting abilities, and consistency make him the all-around midfielder Manchester United is seeking.
According to Saha, if Casemiro leaves, the ideal solution is to pair Guimarães with a young midfielder like Adam Wharton to ensure strength both now and in the future. He admits replacing Casemiro won’t be easy, but with Guimarães, Manchester United can maintain power and resilience in midfield.
