Match result - A poor showing during the game led to Inter's premature exit at the play-off stage of the 2025/26 Champions League season.
With a 1-3 defeat in the first leg in Norway, Inter had to secure a big win against Bodo/Glimt at Giuseppe Meazza to overturn the tie over the two-legged play-off.
Inter started aggressively right after the kickoff, quickly pushing forward to seek an early goal. In the opening minutes, Federico Dimarco consistently delivered dangerous corners and crosses, while Francesco Pio Esposito and Davide Frattesi had chances to shoot inside the box. However, goalkeeper Nikita Haikin remained focused, repeatedly denying aerial threats and long-range shots from the home side.
Bodo/Glimt did not just defend passively but also made notable contributions. Hakon Evjen’s sharp header forced Yann Sommer to make a flying save. Still, most of the first half saw Inter controlling the game, earning many corners but lacking precision in their final touches.
After the break, Inter maintained pressure, but the turning point came in the 58th minute. Sommer brilliantly blocked Ole Blomberg’s close-range shot, yet Jens Hauge was quick to follow up and scored to give the Norwegian side the lead. This goal forced Inter to push forward. They created multiple chances, most notably Manuel Akanji’s shot that hit the post and Dimarco’s effort that went over the bar.
While Inter was still searching for an equalizer, Bodo/Glimt delivered the finishing blow in the 72nd minute. From Hauge’s precise lofted pass, Evjen struck a beautiful shot to make it 2-0. Nevertheless, the Nerazzurri did not give up. In the 76th minute, Alessandro Bastoni capitalized on a chaotic moment in the box to reduce the deficit to 1-2, reigniting hope for the home fans.
In the final minutes, Inter threw everything into attack. Marcus Thuram and Ange-Yoan Bonny both had clear opportunities but failed to convert. After three intense minutes of added time, the referee blew the final whistle, sealing a courageous 2-1 victory for Bodo/Glimt on Inter’s home ground.
This result caused the Milanese side to be eliminated with a 3-5 aggregate loss, marking the biggest upset in the play-off round so far.
