Bayer Leverkusen smoothly advanced to the Champions League Round of 16.

Bayer Leverkusen earned qualification to the Champions League Round of 16 following a goalless draw with Olympiacos, finishing the playoff stage with an overall 2-0 scoreline, and now they await Bayern Munich or Arsenal.

In the early hours of February 25th, Bayer Leverkusen hosted Olympiacos in the second leg of the Champions League playoff round. Thanks to their 2-0 victory in Greece during the first leg, coach Kasper Hjulmand’s team entered the rematch with a significant advantage and faced little pressure. A scoreless draw was enough for the Bundesliga side to achieve their goal of reaching the Round of 16.

With their advantage, Leverkusen started the match proactively but without taking excessive risks. Alejandro Grimaldo stood out in the first half. The Spanish full-back created two excellent chances for Patrik Schick. From a corner kick, Schick headed the ball narrowly wide of the post. Just a minute later, the Czech striker had another opportunity with a skillful chip, but goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis was alert to make the save.

For Olympiacos, the clearest chance came in the 30th minute. Dani Garcia stole the ball from Aleix Garcia, launching a promising counterattack. However, Gelson Martins mishandled the ball at the crucial moment, missing the opportunity to put the visitors ahead.

In the second half, the game saw few changes. Ibrahim Maza suffered an injury and had to be substituted by Ernest Poku. The Dutch player almost made an impact immediately after coming on, but Grimaldo’s powerful shot hit the crossbar.

Olympiacos increased their pressure in the final 30 minutes. Gelson Martins remained the most dangerous threat. One of his shots that changed direction forced goalkeeper Janis Blaswich into a spectacular save. The visitors then brought on André Luis and Ayoub El Kaabi, but they could not break down Leverkusen’s defense.

Although Lucas Vasquez left the field due to discomfort, Leverkusen maintained good control. Late substitutions helped the home team preserve the 0-0 scoreline, officially securing their place in the Champions League Round of 16.
