The landscape of European football has dramatically shifted, with Norwegian football achieving a "quadruple victory" over Italian football.

In a single night, the European football hierarchy changed drastically, with Norwegian football, both at the national and club levels, achieving a "fourfold victory" over Italian football, demonstrating Norway's newfound dominance over Italy.

During the second leg of the Champions League round of 16 playoff on February 25th Beijing time, Inter Milan was defeated 1-2 at home by Bodø/Glimt, following a 1-3 loss away. Serie A leader Inter Milan was swept by the Norwegian side Bodø/Glimt with a 2-5 aggregate score, suffering a heavy elimination. Last season’s Champions League runner-up failed to advance to the knockout stage.

Bodø/Glimt set two historic records:Firstly, it was the club’s first-ever advancement to the Champions League last 16; secondly, they became the first Norwegian team to reach the Champions League knockout stage via the playoff route.Bodø/Glimt will face either Manchester City or Sporting CP in the round of 16. Notably, Bodø/Glimt defeated Manchester City during the group stage of this season’s Champions League.

Norwegian football has "quadruple defeated" Italian football from national teams to club sides. Besides Bodø/Glimt’s double victory over Inter Milan, in the CONCACAF-UEFA World Cup qualifying group stage, Norway and Italy are both in Group I. While fans initially thought Italy had a favorable draw, Norway swept Italy both home and away,Norway won 3-0 against Italy at home and 4-1 away against Italy. With a 7-1 aggregate victory over Italy home and away, Norway topped the group and qualified for the 2026 CONCACAF-UEFA World Cup.

Can you imagine? Four-time World Cup winners Italy have missed the last two tournaments, and now from the national team to clubs, Italian football has been "quadruple defeated" by Norway, a real blow to their pride. With Serie A’s decline, Italy can no longer be considered a strong football nation, marking a major shift in the European football order.
