Manchester United's young talent scores four goals, aiming to replace Zirkzee next season! Carrick's son nearly ejected while watching the match

Manchester United prospect Chiedozie Obi was demoted to the youth team this season to gain experience. Last season, he received a call-up from Ruben Amorin and featured in several first-team games but failed to score, only netting once during the postseason Asian tour. At the youth level, Obi rebuilt his confidence, scoring four goals in one match this week for the U21s versus Leicester City's youth squad. Obi originally rose to fame by scoring 10 goals in a single match against Liverpool's youth team while playing for Arsenal's youth side.

Obi scored all the goals in the 4-1 victory over Leicester City U21, extending the team's lead in the English Premier League 2 standings. Manchester United U21 now have 33 points from 14 games and have played one less match than second-placed Chelsea and Ipswich.

Thanks to his four goals in this match, 18-year-old Obi jumped to sixth place on the top scorers list, netting 9 goals in 14 games, surpassing teammate Shea Lacey who has 8 goals in 8 matches.

Obi opened the scoring with a header in the 37th minute, then Leicester City equalized through Lorenz Hutchinson. Before halftime, Obi dribbled past defenders and scored again to regain the lead. In the second half, Obi added two more goals in the 88th minute and stoppage time, securing a 4-1 win. After the match, he posted a photo on social media holding the match ball and raising four fingers.

With the first team missing out on European competitions and being eliminated early in both domestic cups, Obi had almost no chances with the senior squad this season, making only two matchday squads. Inside sources from Manchester United’s academy emphasize the club’s patience with Obi’s development and highlight his improved off-the-ball movement this season.

Obi aims to achieve more success with Manchester United’s youth teams, participating in both the reserves and U18 youth FA Cup competitions. Darren Fletcher’s Manchester United U18 side has reached the quarterfinals of the youth FA Cup and will face either Brighton or Sunderland next month, with the match possibly held at Old Trafford.

Led by Adam Lawrence, Manchester United’s U21 squad will face Real Madrid in the Premier League International Cup quarterfinals next month. The match was originally scheduled at Old Trafford but has been relocated to the Leigh Sports Village due to a scheduling conflict with Manchester United Women’s first team game.

Obi, who represents Denmark’s youth national team, hopes to replace the likely departing forward Zirkzee next season as a backup striker for the first team. The 24-year-old Dutch striker hoped for a move in January, but Manchester United did not approve it. Unfortunately, he has not found opportunities under Carrick and is expected to transfer this summer.

Manchester United might sign a new left winger but currently have no plans to buy a new striker, which could open the door for Obi’s promotion.

Manchester United manager Michael Carrick’s son, Jacey Carrick, also plays for the club’s U18 team. On Monday, after watching the Red Devils’ 1-0 win at Everton’s new stadium, the Hill Dickinson Ground, young Carrick was almost removed by security staff.

The Manchester Evening News revealed that 15-year-old Jacey Carrick waited in a designated area after the match to meet his father. A staff member, not recognizing him, asked for identification to remain there. Jacey replied, "I'm waiting for Carrick."

Confused, the staff still escorted Jacey Carrick away, but the misunderstanding was quickly cleared up, allowing him to return to wait for his father. Jacey frequently attends away matches for Manchester United. Notably, his father, during his playing days, also sometimes supported the Red Devils from the away fans’ stands rather than the VIP box.
