Football expert Nguyễn Văn Vinh, former star of Thể Công Viettel and ex-Technical Director of HAGL, has recently passed away.
Born in 1942, Mr. Nguyễn Văn Vinh, a former player of Thể Công Club and former Technical Director of Hoàng Anh Gia Lai Club, died at 3:30 AM on February 25, 2026, at the age of 84.
Mr. Nguyễn Văn Vinh was one of the most prominent figures in Vietnamese football across many eras. As a player, he was closely associated with Thể Công Club. Transitioning to coaching, he led several teams including Thể Công, Ho Chi Minh City Police, Đà Nẵng, and Hoàng Anh Gia Lai, while also serving as an assistant coach for the Vietnam national team.
Notably, during the golden era of Hoàng Anh Gia Lai Club, Mr. Nguyễn Văn Vinh made a significant impact as Technical Director. He contributed greatly by advising and shaping the strategic direction of the HAGL Arsenal JMG Football Academy in its early days. He retired in 2009 due to health reasons.
The passing of Mr. Nguyễn Văn Vinh is a great loss for Vietnamese football. Recently, the Vietnam Football Federation expressed their deepest condolences to his family, relatives, and Hoàng Anh Gia Lai Club.
