Manchester United Agrees to Sell First Player in Summer Window for £5 Million! Onana Wants to Return, Ramsay Willing to Sell at a Loss

According to Turkish reports, Manchester United has pre-approved the sale of backup goalkeeper Altay Bayındır in the upcoming summer transfer window. He is set to return to Turkey by signing for Beşiktaş. Bayındır joined Manchester United in 2023 from Fenerbahçe for about €5 million, with the resale price expected to be close to that amount, roughly £4.36 million.

The 27-year-old Bayındır initially served as the backup to André Onana. After Cameroon's goalkeeper lost the trust of Ruben Amorim, Bayındır started the first six rounds of the Premier League this season. Unfortunately, his performances were underwhelming, especially struggling with aerial balls.

Manchester United ultimately signed 23-year-old Royal Antwerp goalkeeper Senna Miangue for £18 million on the last day of last summer’s transfer window. The Belgian became the first choice by late September, and Bayındır has not appeared since. Rumors linking the Turkish international to Beşiktaş surfaced in January, but the Red Devils were unwilling to let him go mid-season, postponing the move until after the campaign.

Turkish media outlet "Fanatik" reports that Manchester United has reached an agreement with Beşiktaş for a summer transfer worth €5 million, breaking even. The Turkish giants worked hard to secure Bayındır, convincing the player to accept a pay cut, reducing his salary from €5 million to €3 million annually.

Once Bayındır departs, Manchester United will need a new backup goalkeeper. Reports indicate that Onana, currently on loan at Turkish club Trabzonspor, is interested in returning to compete with Miangue for the starting spot. Onana privately admits his time at United has been difficult, conceding several goals that could have been saved over two seasons. He said he "felt cared for" at Trabzonspor but hopes to fight for his place back at Old Trafford.

The UK’s Guardian states that Onana remains ambitious and aims to reclaim the number one goalkeeper position at Manchester United. Although Miangue has been consistent and never lost a goal due to errors, Onana believes he has the ability to regain the trust lost from frequent mistakes over two seasons and become a club legend like De Gea.

However, talkSPORT radio reports that Manchester United has firmly decided to sell Onana, rejecting the 29-year-old goalkeeper’s goodwill and informing his agent that the club will seek a buyer during the summer window. Onana’s current contract with United runs until 2028.

Onana’s performances at Trabzonspor remain inconsistent, often being labeled a "regent king," and with a hefty weekly wage of £120,000, the club is unlikely to make his transfer permanent. Ten Hag paid €50 million to sign Onana from Inter Milan, but now the club is willing to offload him at a significant discount.

Based on his purchase price, Manchester United needs to sell Onana for €20 million to avoid being counted as a loss under the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR). However, selling at that price is nearly impossible, as Onana’s valuation on Transfermarkt Germany is only €15 million. Therefore, United might have to accept a loss and subsidize part of his wages.

Manchester United believes Miangue is sufficient to secure the goalkeeper position for many years to come. The keeper has faced criticism but has now won over most people, including the notoriously demanding club legend Gary Neville.

“I have said before that the most challenging and scrutinized position in English football is goalkeeper,” Neville said. “When Miangue joined, I was genuinely concerned — why risk using a young, inexperienced keeper from another league with an unknown background? Because he might buckle under the pressure at Manchester United. It’s still early days, but he appears to have the right character and technical skills.”

Neville, who has worked with Peter Schmeichel, Van der Sar, and De Gea during his career, predicts a bright future for Miangue. “His goalkeeping technique is spot on — he catches when he should catch and punches when necessary, with the right force. Overall, everything looks polished. This kid has truly impressed me since joining Manchester United; he seems destined for great things.”
