After parting ways with coach Mauro Jeronimo, Thep Xanh Nam Dinh club caused a stir by bringing back coach Vu Hong Viet to manage the squad.
On the morning of February 26, Thep Xanh Nam Dinh club announced the separation from coach Mauro Jeronimo after a series of poor results. However, what shocked fans even more was the club’s decision to reappoint coach Vu Hong Viet – who had previously stepped down to make way for Mauro Jeronimo.
According to information from Thep Xanh Nam Dinh, the team had only three days to prepare for the derby against Ninh Binh FC. After coach Mauro Jeronimo resigned, the club needed a coach familiar with the team who could start immediately, so coach Vu Hong Viet was invited. In this difficult period, coach Vu Hong Viet did not refuse the club’s request. It is known that coach Vu Hong Viet will begin work today, February 26.
Coach Vu Hong Viet first took charge of Thep Xanh Nam Dinh in August 2022. He assumed the role when the team was ranked 12th out of 13 clubs in the V-League after 13 rounds. The 1979-born coach then successfully helped the Nam team secure their league status early.
Coach Vu Hong Viet subsequently led Thep Xanh Nam Dinh through the most successful period in the club’s history. He guided the team to win the 2023/2024 V-League championship and the 2024 National Super Cup. In the 2024/25 season, the 1979-born coach continued to help Thep Xanh Nam Dinh successfully defend the V-League title despite significant losses in the squad, as key players Nguyen Xuan Son and Nguyen Van Toan suffered serious injuries while playing for the Vietnam national team and had to be sidelined long-term.
On the international stage, he helped Thep Xanh Nam Dinh reach the knockout round of the AFC Champions League Two 2024/25 and secure a spot in the Shopee Cup 2025/26.
Coach Vu Hong Viet resigned on October 24, 2025after the team lost to Gamba Osaka in the AFC Champions League Two 2025/26. Four months later, he agreed to return and assist the team during this challenging time.
