The Thailand women's futsal team officially secured an early place in the semifinals following Malaysia's 4-4 draw against Indonesia in the second matchday.
On the evening of February 25th, the second round of Group A in the championship took place. Southeast Asian women's futsal concluded with a 4-4 draw between Malaysia and Indonesia. With this result, despite not playing in the second round (since Group A only has three teams), the host Thailand has officially qualified for the tournament semifinals one round early, having defeated Indonesia 3-0 in their opening match.
In the final round on the afternoon of February 26th, Thailand will face Malaysia in a match that will decide the group leader. Although already guaranteed to advance, the Golden Kingdom team aims to finish the group stage at the top to gain an advantage in the semifinal bracket.
While Thailand has already “opened the door” to the semifinals, the remaining spot in the group is still contested directly between Malaysia and Indonesia. Specifically, the Malaysian team holds a certain advantage as they only need to win or draw in the last match to advance. Even if they lose, they still have a chance as long as the defeat margin is not too large.
For Indonesia, the team is in a wait-and-see position. After the 4-4 draw with Malaysia, they must rely on the result of the Thailand vs Malaysia match while hoping the tiebreakers fall in their favor.
With complex scenarios involving goal difference and head-to-head results, the final match between Thailand and Malaysia is considered the "key bottleneck" of the group. The outcome will not only decide the top spot but also directly affect Indonesia's chances of advancing.
