SHOCK: Xuan Son’s team announces parting ways with Portuguese coach

Nam Dinh Club suddenly issued a statement about ending their cooperation with coach Mauro Jeronimo after more than three months of partnership.

Nam Dinh Club has just released an official statement announcing the separation from coach Mauro Jeronimo. Thus, the 0-1 loss to Viettel in the rescheduled round 10 V-League match might have been the final straw causing both sides to part ways despite only being together for a little over three months.

Previously, coach Mauro Jeronimo was appointed as the head coach of Nam Dinh Club starting November 2025. On November 14, the Thien Truong home team announced Mauro Jeronimo as their new head coach. The contract between the Nam Dinh club and the Portuguese coach was for two years, lasting until 2027. However, after only three months, the strategist could not remain in the position. Nam Dinh Club stated that coach Jeronimo voluntarily requested to resign.

Joining Nam Dinh Club during a difficult period, especially amid turmoil on the coaching bench when coach Vu Hong Viet resigned and technical director Nguyen Trung Kien was promoted to head coach, Mauro Jeronimo was expected to help Nam Dinh develop an attractive, distinctive attacking style.

However, Nam Dinh’s performance under coach Mauro Jeronimo was also very poor. The club played a total of 10 matches, winning 5, drawing 3, and losing 2. Among these were tough defeats, including a 0-2 loss to Ratchaburi which led to elimination in the AFC Champions League Two group stage, and three consecutive winless matches in the V-League, the latest being the loss to Viettel in the rescheduled round 10 game.

Nam Dinh has gone 10 consecutive matches without a win in the V-League. From being the defending champions, Nam Dinh now ranks 12th, just one point above the relegation zone. Despite the return of Xuan Son and continuous additions of quality foreign players, the performance of the Nam Dinh team remains unacceptable.

Heavy investment without results could be a reason why Nam Dinh decided to quickly part ways with coach Mauro Jeronimo. The Nam Dinh team will have to find a new strategist while the new season is only halfway through.
