According to a sports lawyer, during proceedings at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), family members of players may be summoned as witnesses if necessary, particularly in cases involving document verification or origin.
"The hearing is similar to a regular court session. Typically, there will be a phase for witness testimony and the submission of documentary evidence from both sides.
After the hearing concludes, the appellant and respondent will be given a specific period to prepare written submissions before the panel issues its decision," said sports lawyer Hairul Vaiyron Othman.

He added that cases involving allegations of document forgery, like the one FAM is facing, could be more complex as both parties will defend their arguments.
"FAM might argue that all procedures were correctly followed, while FIFA could contend that there are invalid documents.
If FAM wishes to prove those documents are valid, or if FIFA wants to prove they are invalid, they can summon relevant witnesses.
This could even include the player's family members if it pertains to verifying the validity of documents."
Previously, Metro reported that the wait for Malaysian football fans regarding the appeal decision for the seven naturalized players of the national team at CAS is expected to extend into next week, as the panel requires more time for consideration.

This latest development ends speculation that the decision in this highly sensitive and closely watched case would be announced as nearly anticipated.
Based on feedback from CAS, the panel in charge of the case needs to thoroughly review all arguments and evidence before issuing a final ruling.
According to the announcement, the exact timing of the verdict's release is not yet confirmed, but a preliminary decision (without full written reasons) is expected to be announced next week.
