Malaysia national team receives crucial information from FIFA ahead of match against Vietnam

The Malaysian national team has advanced in the FIFA rankings in the most recent update.

According to the latest FIFA rankings update, the Malaysian national team has risen to 121st in the world with 1,145 points, becoming the third-ranked team in Southeast Asia, behind only Thailand (96th) and Vietnam (108th). Compared to early 2025, the Malaysian team has climbed approximately 11 places, as it was ranked 132nd globally in January 2025. Conversely, the Vietnamese national team has dropped in ranking and currently sits at 108th in the world with 1,189 points.

This improvement reflects the impressive form of the Malaysian national team in recent times. Under the guidance of Peter Cklamovski, "The Malayan Tigers" have shown significant progress due to convincing performances in 2025, particularly their perfect record of five wins in Group F of the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers.

Currently, the Malaysian team leads Group F with 15 points, holding a 3-point advantage over second-placed Vietnam. This gap positions Peter Cklamovski's squad very close to securing the top spot in the group before the final matchday.

In the final match, the Malaysian national team will face the Vietnamese team led by Kim Sang Sik. Given the current situation, Malaysia holds a significant advantage to conclude the qualifiers in first place, thereby securing a spot in the prestigious regional tournament. Previously, in the second match of the group stage, Malaysia achieved a decisive 4-0 victory over Vietnam at Bukit Jalil Stadium.

However, before focusing on the away match against Vietnam, the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) and the national team are still awaiting a final ruling from the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) regarding allegations of document forgery involving seven naturalized players.

In the event of an unfavorable ruling, the Malaysian national team risks forfeiting their two 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers with 0-3 losses. This scenario would create an opportunity for the Vietnamese national team to advance and secure a place in the final tournament scheduled in Saudi Arabia.

After delaying the decision date, CAS is expected to announce its final ruling to FAM and the national team soon, to help all parties prepare optimally for the crucial match against Vietnam, scheduled for March 31st.
