Alexander-Arnold criticized by Spanish media after disastrous mistake

Trent Alexander-Arnold faces criticism from Spanish media following a defensive error that nearly cost Real Madrid in their nail-biting 2-1 victory over Celta Vigo.

Trent Alexander-Arnold became the focal point of criticism from Spanish media after his controversial performance in Real Madrid's 2-1 victory against Celta Vigo in the latest La Liga match. At the Balaídos stadium, Real Madrid opened the scoring thanks to a goal from Aurelien Tchouameni. This goal temporarily brought the Royal club closer to Barcelona in the title race, while also creating a crucial advantage in the match situation.

However, just 14 minutes after taking the lead, Real Madrid allowed their opponent to equalize due to a defensive mistake. A long ball bypassed the defensive line, forcing Alexander-Arnold to retreat and tackle in a situation that initially seemed not too dangerous.

Despite having a favorable position, the English defender hesitated in his decision-making, allowing Williot Swedberg to overtake him and seize the ball. The Celta Vigo midfielder then easily escaped the challenge, entered the penalty area, and set up Borja Iglesias to score the equalizing goal for the home team.

This error quickly made Alexander-Arnold a target of criticism from Spanish media. The newspaper Marca did not hesitate to comment that the English defender appeared "confused" and "lost" in the defensive situation that led to Real Madrid conceding.

“It's unbelievable, Trent. If that can be called defending. He was slow, out of position, and completely disoriented in the penalty area.”, the newspaper remarked sharply. They also noted that while the English defender contributes significantly to the attack, he poses a major risk to the team in defense.

Nevertheless, Alexander-Arnold partially avoided intense pressure when Real Madrid scored the decisive goal in the final minutes of the match. In the 90+4th minute, Federico Valverde fired a shot from outside the penalty area; the ball changed direction after hitting a Celta defender before flying into the net.

The late goal secured a valuable three points for Real Madrid, allowing them to continue chasing Barcelona in the La Liga title race. The gap between the two teams is now only one point, making this season's championship competition extremely tense.
