The Malaysian Football Association has not apologized to fans following the unsuccessful appeal, leaving experts dissatisfied.
Even after the final ruling, the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) has yet to issue any public apology to the Malaysian people. Critic Zack Rahim stated: "CAS (Court of Arbitration for Sport) has stated that you were wrong. Yet FAM has not even uttered a single apology. Why is that so difficult?"
Zack pointed out the consequences of the traditional player scandal and said: "I am almost certain Malaysia will lose six points in the Asian Cup qualifiers."
Although Malaysia previously defeated Vietnam and Nepal in the Asian Cup qualifiers, the results are expected to be annulled by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) following CAS's ruling.
On Thursday, CAS, the de facto international sports court, upheld the 350,000 Swiss franc (1.8 million Malaysian ringgit) fine imposed by FIFA on FAM and the 12-month playing ban on seven naturalized players after their appeal. FIFA penalized FAM and these seven players for falsifying documents related to eligibility for the national team.
"This is not merely a matter of punishment. This threatens the reputation of football, our players, and our youth development efforts." Zack also criticized FAM for not directly informing the public about the errors that occurred and how the national association would rectify them.
"Even FAM's latest statement contains no apology. Seven players were ineligible, yet no apology was given. This is an insult to fans and the football community." FAM, which has maintained a defensive stance throughout the entire incident, questioned the fairness of CAS's ruling.
