A team makes history at the AFC Asian Cup 2026 finals

With a 4-0 victory over Bangladesh, the Uzbekistan women's national team has officially qualified for the quarter-finals of the AFC Asian Cup 2026 finals.

On March 9 afternoon, the Uzbekistan women's team achieved a decisive 4-0 win against Bangladesh in the final match of Group B. AFC Asian Cup 2026 finalsForward Khabibullaeva shone with a hat-trick, while the remaining goal was scored by Kudratova. Thanks to this victory, Uzbekistan concluded the group stage with 3 points and a goal difference of 4 goals scored and 6 conceded, surpassing the performance of the Philippines and thus securing a place in the next round.

Notably, this is also the first time Uzbekistan women's football has earned a ticket to the quarter-finals of the Asian tournament. Historically, they have qualified for the finals five times but were eliminated early in the group stage. The most recent participation of this team was 23 years ago (in 2003).

Speaking after the match, coach Kotryna Kulbyte stated: "Winning such a crucial match, a decisive game to advance from the group stage, is a monumental moment for us," Kulbyte said. "We are participating in this tournament after a 23-year absence, and this is the first time in our history that we have progressed beyond the group stage."

“This achievement holds great significance, and I am very proud of my team. They performed excellently, and all praise goes to the players. This is a historic moment, not just about participating in this tournament, but about advancing past the group stage.

I believe this result will have a positive impact back home, inspiring the younger generation. This is not only about us – it is also about the people of Uzbekistan, the community, and the development of women's football.”

In another development, Uzbekistan's 4-0 victory and their progression also put significant pressure on the Vietnam national team in the race to qualify.
