Huynh Nhu speaks out about parting ways with the Vietnam national team

The veteran Huynh Nhu shares notable thoughts on bidding farewell to the Vietnam national team after the 0-4 loss to Japan.

The Vietnam women's national team has officially said goodbye early at the 2026 Asian Cup finals after losing to Japan 0-4 in the final match. Specifically, after three matches, the team has 3 points but a worse goal difference than Uzbekistan and Philippines, so they did not secure the best third-place position.

After this match, Huynh Nhu stated: "Nhu and the whole team are very sad. Nevertheless, Nhu also wants to thank the Vietnamese fans living in Australia who came to support the team throughout the tournament, as well as the fans back home."

Notably, when asked about leaving the national team, Huynh Nhu revealed: "Currently, Nhu hasn't thought about this matter and will give an answer later."

Speaking further about the results in this tournament, Huynh Nhu shared: "Currently, everyone in the team encourages each other to keep trying. Everyone has put in effort but the outcome wasn't as desired. Nhu wants to thank the fans for their love and support for the national team.

In the upcoming journey, the young generation of players is very good. I hope everyone continues to support them so they have more motivation to strive and contribute to the Vietnam national team."

In this match, Huynh Nhu was brought onto the field by coach Mai Duc Chung in the second half. However, due to the overwhelming dominance of the Japan women's national team, Huynh Nhu could not help her team create a surprise.

On his part, coach Mai Duc Chung shared: "The Japan national team has a very high level, ranking far above us. However, the Vietnamese players gave their utmost effort. Given what the athletes displayed today, I think that is also very commendable."

Notably, the 76-year-old strategist also officially stated he will stop leading the Vietnam women's national team after this tournament, officially closing a three-decade-long journey of dedication.
