Malaysia national team head coach Peter Cklamovski praised Johor Darul Ta’zim after the club advanced to the AFC Champions League Elite quarter-finals.
Despite losing 0-1 away to Sanfrecce Hiroshima in Japan, Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) still secured a spot in the AFC Champions League Elite quarter-finals with an aggregate 3-2 victory over two matches.
This achievement not only brought great joy to Malaysian fans but also prompted national team head coach Peter Cklamovski to offer praise for this representative of Malaysian football. According to the Australian strategist, JDT's success is a proud milestone for Malaysian football.
Sharing on Instagram Story, he wrote: "A fantastic win for JDT. A deserved outcome after two matches. Congratulations to everyone. This is a very proud achievement for Malaysian football."
With this victory, JDT has joined Buriram United, Machida Zelvia, and Vissel Kobe in securing a place in the quarter-finals.
Notably, JDT may receive additional motivation as the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) is considering Malaysia and Jeddah (Saudi Arabia) as alternative venues for hosting matches from the quarter-finals onward. AFC is reportedly evaluating this possibility in case tensions in the Middle East region do not subside.
Meanwhile, coach Peter Cklamovski and the Malaysian national team are focusing their attention on the decisive match against the Vietnam team in the final round of the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers. Despite holding a significant advantage in the race for a ticket to the finals in Saudi Arabia, the "Malayan Tigers" face the risk of receiving a heavy penalty from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).
The reason stems from the Court of Arbitration for Sport concluding that the Malaysian Football Association forged the naturalization documents of seven players. If this ruling is applied, the Malaysian national team could be handed a 0-3 defeat in two matches during the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers, against Nepal and Vietnam respectively.
That scenario would cause the Malaysian national team not only to lose their ticket to the finals but also to face the risk of being banned from participating in major regional tournaments.
In the coming period, AFC is expected to issue an official disciplinary decision against the Malaysian national team. This penalty is likely to be announced before coach Peter Cklamovski and his squad travel to Vietnam to prepare for the final match of the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers.
