Vietnam's U20 team defeats South Korean squad ahead of Asian tournament

The Vietnam women's U20 team achieved a 2-0 win over the main squad of the KSPO women's club (South Korea) in a friendly match as part of their training camp in China, in preparation for the 2026 AFC U20 Women's Asian Cup finals.

According to information from the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), from the very first minutes, both teams engaged with high intensity.

Against a fundamentally skilled opponent, the Vietnam women's U20 players competed with focus, maintained proper team spacing, and were proactive in contested situations.

No goals were scored in the first half, but Vietnam's women's U20 team created a surprise early in the second half. In the 51st minute, from a corner kick situation, Khanh Vy leaped high and headed accurately to open the scoring.

With a lead from the opening goal, the players under coach Okiyama Masahiko continued to uphold disciplined gameplay and actively pressured the opponent's defense.

Originating from an effective pressing situation by Vietnam's women's U20 forward, the opposing defender made a careless back-pass that confused the goalkeeper, allowing the Vietnam women's U20 team to score another goal, sealing a 2-0 victory.

Evaluating his players' performance, coach Okiyama Masahiko stated: "In the match against the KSPO women's football club (South Korea), the whole team performed well and won with a 2-0 score.

The players competed with concentration, discipline, and demonstrated high determination throughout the match. However, the team still has many aspects to improve and is striving daily to enhance. This victory boosts the players' confidence as they aim for the tournament with the highest goals."

In the match held this afternoon on March 12, Vietnam's women's U20 team not only organized a tight defense but also proactively regained possession to launch effective counterattacks.

The KSPO women's club is a team with high professional quality, possessing speed, individual technique, and excellent short-range coordination. Nevertheless, with unity and determination, the Vietnam women's U20 team achieved a positive result.

According to the plan, the Vietnam women's U20 team will have one final friendly match against a Chinese women's football club on March 14.

On March 15, the entire team will return to Vietnam and relocate their training base to Ho Chi Minh City to continue the final preparation phase before departing for the competition.

During the two-week intensive period, coach Okiyama Masahiko and his players will have two quality friendly matches against the Uzbekistan women's U20 team on March 24 and March 27.
