FIFA investigates the mastermind behind forged documents for Malaysian players' naturalization, not the agent.

The forged document case involving seven Malaysian national team players is not over, as there is likely to be a continuation, until the mastermind behind the incident is dealt with.

This possibility was shared by AFC General Secretary Windsor John with Arena Metro. He acknowledged that FIFA could still continue investigating the case despite penalties being issued for the seven players, along with a fine for the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) and the cancellation of some match results of the Malaysian national team in 2025.

He stated that, based on the full content in the document previously released by FIFA, the seven involved players admitted that all paperwork procedures were handed to an agent they hired to carry out.

AFC General Secretary Windsor John spoke to the press regarding the illegal naturalization case of Malaysian players on March 12.

Therefore, FIFA has the possibility to continue investigating to clarify what really happened, as the person behind this forged birth certificate case has not been identified.

"FIFA has the right to continue investigating, for example, regarding the agent or other officials. The investigation might still be ongoing, we don't know either.

All possibilities could happen. So, if I say this case is over, it might be over.

But it might also not be, because FIFA has such authority, unlike AFC," he said.

Previously, the case involving seven players including Facundo Garcés, Rodrigo Holgado, Imanol Machuca, João Figueiredo, Gabriel Palmero, Jon Irazabal, and Héctor Hevel attracted significant attention after being brought to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) following disciplinary measures imposed by FIFA.

Through an investigation conducted by FIFA's Disciplinary Committee last September, these seven players were found to have forged birth certificates to play for the Malaysian national team in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers and some international friendly matches.

As a result, they were suspended for 12 months and fined, while FAM was also fined for technical errors.

AFC will hold a meeting to discuss disciplinary measures for the Malaysian national team participating in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers, and this issue will be handed over to AFC's Disciplinary and Ethics Committee for review.
