Vietnamese football receives extremely positive news from AFC.

Two Vietnamese referees, Ngô Duy Lân and Nguyễn Trung Hậu, have passed AFC's VAR selection exam.

Vietnamese referees Ngô Duy Lân and Nguyễn Trung Hậu have successfully passed AFC's VAR Referee Selection process and officially joined the AFC Video Match Officials (VMO) Panel 2026 list.

This marks a positive step forward for Vietnam's refereeing contingent in participating in the management of continental-level tournaments, while also affirming professional development in the application of VAR technology.

The AFC Video Match Officials Selection 2026 program was held from February 02 to 06, 2026 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, aiming to train, evaluate, and select Video Match Officials for AFC's tournament system. Within the program framework, participants engaged in extensive training modules, including theoretical study of VAR technology, analysis of key match situations, VAR intervention principles and criteria, as well as methods for selecting camera angles to assist referees in making accurate decisions.

In addition to theoretical components, participants also practiced on the VAR Simulator system with scenarios simulating real match conditions to hone skills in image analysis, situation assessment, and decision-making. Furthermore, the program organized VAR procedure drills in an operational environment similar to actual matches, enhancing coordination between VAR, AVAR, and the on-field match referee.

The training process also included match situation analysis, interviews, and comprehensive evaluation of participants' capabilities. Through the overall assessment results, AFC selected referees who fully met the standards to join the Video Match Officials team serving tournaments in the region.

The successful selection of referees Ngô Duy Lân and Nguyễn Trung Hậu and their inclusion in the VMO Panel 2026 list not only acknowledges their professional competence but also elevates the standing of Vietnamese refereeing within the continental football system, while contributing to increased accuracy and transparency in refereeing decisions at international competitions.
