English football entered the knockout stage with pride as all six representatives qualified. This is something no other league has achieved in the Champions League. English football confidently expected to dominate in numbers in the quarter-finals. Yet, from pride to concern, after the Round of 16 first leg, the results became alarming for English clubs, with four out of six teams suffering defeats. This is a rare occasion where English football experienced a Champions League matchday without any wins.
From being highly rated, English football now faces the risk of being completely absent from the quarter-finals. The fact that all six representatives failed to win in the first leg shows the Premier League's status is severely shaken.
The most painful defeats were suffered by Tottenham, Chelsea, and Manchester City. With losses by a margin of three goals (Tottenham and Chelsea both suffered a 2-5 defeat against Atletico Madrid and PSG respectively, Manchester City lost 3-0 to Real Madrid), they are now at risk of elimination.

Given the current results, Manchester City, Chelsea, and Tottenham are the teams under the greatest pressure. They must produce a classic comeback if they want to secure a quarter-final spot. However, a major concern is that the defenses of English teams have exposed many problems. In just the first leg, the six representatives conceded a total of 16 goals, with Chelsea and Tottenham each allowing five.
The Champions League has also witnessed many incredible comebacks, and Premier League representatives still have a chance to correct their mistakes. But if they cannot reverse the situation, English football could face one of its most forgettable European campaigns in recent years.
Arsenal now perhaps carries the mission of "rescuing" English football. The Gunners drew with Leverkusen away. Arsenal will play the return leg at their home ground, Emirates Stadium, giving manager Mikel Arteta and his team a significant opportunity to advance to the quarter-finals.

Based on form, squad depth, and the home advantage in the return leg against Leverkusen, the London Gunners' chances of progressing are considered the brightest among the six English teams.
Only Newcastle achieved a similar draw result as Arsenal. The Magpies surprisingly held Barcelona to a draw. However, expecting Newcastle to defeat Barcelona in the return leg at the Nou Camp sanctuary is somewhat unrealistic.
Liverpool lost 0-1 to Galatasaray away and will play the return leg at Anfield. Although the margin is not large, this result still puts the Merseyside representative under pressure heading into the second leg. In theory, Liverpool can hope to turn the tide. However, based on their performance, the Turkish representative is not an easy team to beat. The Kop must be truly excellent to defeat Galatasaray, but that has rarely been demonstrated by Liverpool this season.
The Champions League always harbors surprises, and nothing can be predicted. The first leg brought unfavorable results for Premier League representatives; it is likely that English football will struggle to preserve its contingent after the Round of 16 return legs conclude.
