Carrick confirms Manchester United has the service of a £60 million midfielder

Manchester United has received positive signals regarding squad strength ahead of the crucial clash with Aston Villa in the Premier League this weekend.

According to manager Michael Carrick's update, Mount has returned to training with the full squad at Carrington this week. This is considered a significant morale boost for Manchester United as the team enters a crucial phase of the season.

Mount had missed the last six matches after suffering an injury early in Carrick's tenure. The absence of the English midfielder has caused considerable difficulties for Manchester United's midfield in maintaining creativity and match control.

Speaking to the press, Carrick expressed his delight at Mount's return to training with teammates. However, the 44-year-old strategist also acknowledged that the former Chelsea star is not yet at peak physical condition.

“Mason has rejoined team training, which is fantastic. He is a very important player for us. However, Mount has only trained for a short period and is not yet in perfect physical shape. We will assess further before deciding whether he will play on Sunday”, Carrick shared.

Despite the positive news regarding Mount, Manchester United still faces squad challenges as three key players remain sidelined due to injuries. Center-back Matthijs de Ligt is still recovering from a back injury that has persisted for three and a half months. Meanwhile, Lisandro Martinez cannot return due to a calf issue, and defender Patrick Dorgu continues treatment for a hamstring injury.

The absence of defensive pillars has left Carrick grappling with lineup decisions for the upcoming match. Notably, Aston Villa under manager Unai Emery has been displaying formidable form and is a direct competitor in the race for European qualification.

Pressure mounts further for Manchester United following the loss to Newcastle United in the previous round. That was also Carrick's first defeat as head coach of Manchester United since taking charge. Nevertheless, Carrick asserted that the team quickly moved past the disappointment. According to him, the players thoroughly analyzed the loss and extracted key lessons during training this week.

“It was a disappointing result, especially the way the match concluded. But we reviewed, analyzed, and learned from it. Training sessions this week have been very positive, and the entire team is fully focused on the next match”, Carrick added. The encounter with Aston Villa is seen as a pivotal match in the race for UEFA Champions League qualification next season.
