Coach Mikel Arteta has updated the fitness status of two Arsenal key players ahead of the clash with Everton in the 30th round of the Premier League.
Coach Mikel Arteta of Arsenal has updated the fitness situation of two important players, Martin Odegaard and Leandro Trossard, before the encounter with Everton in the 30th round of the Premier League.
Odegaard has not played since his last appearance in Arsenal's 4-1 victory over Tottenham, when he came off the bench and played for 13 minutes. The Arsenal captain has been sidelined since February due to a knee issue. Meanwhile, Trossard suffered a hip injury during the London club's 2-1 win against Mansfield Park in the 5th round of the FA Cup.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Arteta shared the status of the aforementioned duo. He stated: "We will have to wait and see. I need to consult with the doctors to determine if they can play. Regarding Trossard, he feels there is a problem, and if he is not 100% fit, he cannot play."
The upcoming clash between Arsenal and Everton this weekend is attracting significant attention as "The Gunners" currently have 67 points after 30 matches. Meanwhile, their title rival Manchester City is in second place with 60 points after 29 matches and still has one pending match against West Ham. If Arsenal does not continue winning, Manchester City has a clear opportunity to close the gap in the final months of the title race.
Regarding the Emirates Stadium team's championship prospects, the Spanish strategist affirmed: "At this stage, every victory is a major step towards the goal. And as you said, tomorrow's match will be extremely difficult. Therefore, we must give our utmost effort to achieve the result. If we do that, we will move closer to our objective."
Besides the Premier League, Arsenal is also considered one of the top contenders for titles in other competitions they are participating in. The London club will face Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final, before meeting Southampton in the FA Cup quarter-finals.
Additionally, Arsenal is among the contenders for the Champions League title this season if they maintain their current form. In the scenario of winning all competitions, the London club would achieve a historic feat by completing a quadruple. However, the season is still long, and Arsenal has much work to do to turn this ambition into reality.
