Vietnam's top track and field athlete Nguyen Thi Oanh will not compete in the 42km marathon event at the 2026 National Marathon Championship, despite being the national record holder for this distance. According to the official registration plan, the athlete from Bac Ninh's track and field team will only compete in the professional women's 5km event when the tournament takes place in Nha Trang (Khanh Hoa) at the end of March.

The decision not to compete in the marathon was made to help Nguyen Thi Oanh maintain the best physical foundation for important tasks this year, particularly ASIAD 2026 scheduled for September in Japan. The coaching staff stated that she is currently training under the national team's specialized program and needs to focus on her strengths in stadium events.

At the national marathon championship, Nguyen Thi Oanh remains a strong contender in the professional women's 5km event. She has dominated this event for many years with a streak of nine consecutive championships. In the 2025 season held in Quang Tri, the runner born in 1995 again finished first with a time of 16 minutes 20 seconds. This year, her goal is to achieve her tenth consecutive top podium finish.

The professional women's 5km event of this year's tournament has 28 registered athletes competing. Besides Nguyen Thi Oanh, the race also features notable participants such as Nguyen Khanh Linh, Bui Thi Thu Ha, and Bui Thi Ngan.

Currently, Nguyen Thi Oanh still holds the national women's marathon record with a time of 2 hours 39 minutes 49 seconds set in late 2024. However, her strategy for 2026 prioritizes her specialty events like the 1,500m, 5,000m, 10,000m, and 3,000m steeplechase, aiming towards major goals for Vietnamese athletics on the continental stage.

Chinese National Team Secures Spot in 2027 Women's World Cup

The Chinese women's national team officially secured a spot in the FIFA World Cup 2027 after a tense 2-0 victory over Chinese Taipei that extended into extra time.

Right after the opening whistle, China quickly controlled the game and pressured their opponent with familiar flank attacks. However, Chinese Taipei's tight defense caused significant difficulties for the red-shirted strikers. Despite dominating possession and creating many opportunities, China could not find a goal in the first half.

In the second half, the game situation remained largely unchanged. The Chinese players continuously increased pressure, but goalkeeper Cheng Ssu-yu performed excellently with a series of crucial saves. Even in stoppage time, Yao Wei's powerful shot hit the crossbar, forcing the match into extra time.

FIFA Removes Two Transfer Ban Orders for Thanh Hoa Club

Dong A Thanh Hoa Club received positive news as FIFA officially removed two bans on registering new players after the club completed financial obligations related to previous disputes.

According to updates from FIFA's management system on March 14, the Thanh-based club has fully settled salary debts and contract compensation for complaining players. The relevant players have also submitted confirmation documents to FIFA stating they received the agreed amounts, providing grounds for the world football governing body to consider lifting the bans.

However, Thanh Hoa still has two other player registration bans unresolved. If procedures are not completed before the deadline of Vietnam football's transfer window on March 17, the club will have to play the remainder of the season with a rather thin squad.

The coaching staff is preparing plans to supplement personnel immediately upon FIFA's permission. Some expected names to be registered include young striker Le Van Hoan, former Vietnam U19 player Le Van Hung, ex-national team player Nguyen Huu Dung, and foreign player Amar Catic.

Previously, the Thanh-based club faced financial difficulties after club chairman Cao Tien Doan was arrested in 2025, leading to delayed salary payments for some players. However, through player sales and resource mobilization, the club is gradually stabilizing again.

After 16 rounds of V-League, Thanh Hoa has 13 points and is ranked 12th on the standings, continuing a difficult relegation battle.

Thomas Partey Faces Additional Rape Charges

Former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey is facing two new rape charges after another woman filed accusations. The case was mentioned at a preliminary hearing held at Westminster Magistrates' Court in London.

According to court information, Partey – currently playing for Villarreal CF – is accused of twice raping a woman during a date in December 2020. However, the Ghanaian midfielder was not present at the first court session and was represented by his lawyer who permitted his absence.

His lawyer, Emma Fenn, stated that her client will deny all new charges. Previously, Partey had also been charged with five rape counts related to two other women and one sexual assault charge against a third victim.

The prosecutor indicated that the woman bringing the new charges decided to report only after information about previous cases was widely publicized in the media.

The court decided to transfer the two new charges to Southwark Crown Court for further trial on April 10. While awaiting trial, Partey is released on bail but must comply with conditions prohibiting contact with the accuser.

Thomas Partey joined Arsenal from Atletico Madrid in 2020 for a fee of around £45 million and has over 50 caps for Ghana. The main trial of the case is scheduled for November this year.

15-Year-Old Manchester United Prodigy Cannot Yet Debut in Premier League

Coach Michael Carrick revealed that Manchester United's young talent JJ Gabriel cannot debut in the Premier League this season due to a special regulation related to age.

Gabriel turned 15 last October but has impressed strongly in Manchester United's U18 team. The young striker scored 20 goals in 22 matches, becoming one of the most notable young talents in the club's academy.
