Coach Michael Carrick stated that Manchester United does not want to part with captain Bruno Fernandes, after the midfielder set a Premier League assist record.
Coach Michael Carrick confirmed that Manchester United does not want captain Bruno Fernandes to leave the club during the summer transfer window, amid growing attention surrounding the Portuguese midfielder's future at Old Trafford.
Speaking after Manchester United's 3-1 victory over Aston Villa in the 30th round of the Premier League, Carrick emphasized Fernandes' importance to the "Red Devils' " style of play. “Bruno is definitely a player we do not want to lose. That I can say clearly,” the English strategist shared.
The Manchester United manager also admitted he cannot delve deeply into the club's long-term plans, but affirmed that Fernandes remains a key figure. “I cannot say too much about what will happen in the summer or beyond. But clearly Bruno is an extremely important part of the team,” Carrick said.
The performance against Aston Villa continued to prove the value of the 31-year-old midfielder. Two assists in the match helped Fernandes raise his total assists this Premier League season to 16, thereby surpassing the record of 15 assists in a single season set by legend David Beckham. “Bruno's influence on the team is immense. He always appears in crucial moments,” Carrick remarked.
Not only Fernandes, Carrick also expressed gratitude towards Casemiro, who opened the scoring with a header from Fernandes' corner kick and is likely to leave the team in the summer. “Casemiro has made fantastic contributions since I started working with him. The moment he was acknowledged by the fans at the end of the match was truly beautiful,” Carrick said.
The victory over Aston Villa helps Manchester United maintain third place on the standings with 54 points, as the season has only eight rounds remaining. “We still have much work to do, but the team is moving in the right direction. It is crucial to maintain focus during the final stage of the season,” Carrick affirmed, as Manchester United's goal is to secure a spot in the UEFA Champions League next season.
