Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney recently drew attention by stating that the leadership of the Old Trafford club should officially appoint this individual as the head coach.
According to the former English striker, Carrick is the most suitable person to lead Manchester United in the new phase, especially following the team's impressive performances in recent times.
In the latest round of the Premier League, Manchester United secured a convincing 3-1 victory over Aston Villa. Despite Ross Barkley equalizing at one point, second-half goals from Casemiro, Matheus Cunha, and Benjamin Sesko ensured "The Red Devils" claimed all three crucial points. This result not only solidified Manchester United's position among the top teams but also kept their hopes alive for securing a Champions League spot next season.
Notably, the win against Aston Villa also allowed Michael Carrick to maintain an impressive home record since taking temporary charge of Manchester United. Under the former English midfielder's guidance, the team's playing style has seen many positive changes. Manchester United has displayed greater cohesion, better organization, and particularly a stronger fighting spirit in important matches.
This precisely leads Wayne Rooney to believe that Manchester United's leadership should not seek a new manager but should place their trust in Carrick. Speaking to the media, Rooney emphasized: “I am 100% certain that Carrick should be given this job. I know him very well, from his personality to his working methods. Carrick understands Manchester United, understands the players, and knows what the team needs at this moment.”
Rooney also thinks Manchester United needs a manager who is calm and familiar with the club's internal dynamics, rather than risking new choices. According to him, the Manchester United players are currently playing football of higher quality, with greater cohesion and a clear collective spirit under Carrick.
In reality, Carrick's current situation reminds many of the period when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer temporarily managed Manchester United. At that time, the Norwegian strategist also helped the team perform better before being officially appointed. Although Solskjaer later couldn't sustain long-term success, Rooney believes Carrick's case should be evaluated independently.
After the victory over Aston Villa, Carrick also expressed satisfaction with his players' performance. He stated that Manchester United responded very well after a previous defeat and showed the character of a big club. Nevertheless, Carrick remained cautious, emphasizing that the season still has many challenging matches ahead.
Alongside Manchester United's win, captain Bruno Fernandes also had a memorable match by contributing two assists in the second half. This achievement helped the Portuguese midfielder break David Beckham's record for assists in a single season at Manchester United, further affirming his leadership role in the squad.
With stable form and a positive atmosphere in the dressing room, Michael Carrick is gradually proving he has the capability to lead Manchester United long-term. The question now is not about Carrick's ability, but whether the "Red Devils" leadership is ready to trust a manager who was once a club icon.
