CBA Rankings Shaken Up! Liaoning Upsets Guangdong to Rise to Seventh, Jilin Stuns Shanxi, Xinjiang Dominates Beijing Control

On March 16 Beijing time, the CBA regular season continued with three more games concluding last night. In the marquee matchup, Guangdong suffered a heavy defeat, losing 73-89 to Liaoning. The "giant killer" Jilin erupted in the fourth quarter, staging a comeback to stun Shanxi 96-90. Xinjiang's offense flourished comprehensively, overpowering Beijing Control 103-89. Consequently, the latest rankings are in disarray: Guangdong remains third, Liaoning surges to seventh with a five-game winning streak, Shanxi falls to ninth after two consecutive losses, Beijing Control is twelfth, Jilin climbs to thirteenth with two straight wins, and Xinjiang sits at fourteenth!

Guangdong versus Liaoning. Guangdong has been in a slump recently, losing multiple games, and head coach Du Feng has faced considerable criticism. In this round's classic Liaoning-Guangdong clash, Cui Yongxi also made his debut for Guangdong. Expectations were for a fierce contest, but surprisingly, the game turned into a one-sided rout. Guangdong's offense was silenced; they were battered by Liaoning in the first quarter, which ended 28-11. Subsequently, Guangdong showed little ability to score decisively, while Liaoning maintained scoring pressure. In the second half, no Guangdong player could consistently score, and Samner struggled alone. Ultimately, the gap widened continuously, turning the game into garbage time. Liaoning, with five players scoring double figures, crushed Guangdong, unexpectedly securing a fifth consecutive win and climbing to sixth in the rankings!

Jilin versus Shanxi. Jilin is a giant killer, capable of delivering unexpected surprises, as was the case in this match against Shanxi. After the start, both teams were off form in the first quarter, with frequent missed shots leading to a tight, tug-of-war score. In the second quarter, Shanxi first found their offensive rhythm, aggressively attacking to pull away from Jilin. Shanxi continued to press and expand their lead in the second half. However, the situation changed dramatically in the final quarter: Shanxi's offense stalled and fell silent, giving Jilin an opportunity. Jilin launched a massive counterattack, steadily eroding the deficit. Jiang Weize, scoring efficiently, led Jilin to a furious 33-20 quarter, completing a wave of play for a stunning comeback and securing two consecutive wins!

Xinjiang versus Beijing Control. The two teams are direct competitors for playoff qualification, making this matchup highly watched. The result saw Xinjiang flourish comprehensively: their three-point shots landed, drives succeeded, and post-up plays worked. Beijing Control, lacking three-point shooting, relied solely on isolation plays and drives, essentially depending on foreign player performance. Ultimately, Xinjiang broke through like a torrent, crushing Beijing Control with overwhelming dominance, now trailing the playoff zone by just one win!
