The U23 Vietnam national team officially convened on March 17th in Hanoi to prepare for a friendly tournament in China.
29 players will join the U23 Vietnam national team today, March 17th. At 5:00 PM on the same day, the team will have its first training session at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center.
For this first assembly in 2026, as head coach Kim Sang Sik is occupied with the senior national team's schedule, assistant coach Dinh Hong Vinh will take charge of the team. Before the training session, the Vietnamese strategist will also answer questions from the media.
The list of 29 players summoned this time clearly shows the continuity of the generation matured from Vietnam's youth teams (U19, U20, U23), such as goalkeeper Pham Dinh Hai, Cao Van Binh, midfielders Nguyen Cong Phuong, Le Van Thuận... Meanwhile, the young striker Le Phat, despite being named in the list, missed this training session due to a shoulder injury.
Additionally, there are many new faces joining, such as Nguyen Quoc Toan, Nguyen Anh Tuấn (PVF-CAND), Tran Hai Anh (Quang Ninh), Nguyen Trong Son (Bac Ninh), Ta Xuan Truong (TTTT II Ninh Binh), Vu Quoc Anh (Hai Phong)… promising to create a positive competitive atmosphere within the squad.
According to the plan, the U23 Vietnam national team will train in Hanoi from March 17th. It is expected that on March 23rd, the coaching staff will reduce the list to 25 players before departing to China to participate in the international tournament CFA Team China 2026, held in Xi'an from March 25th to March 31st.
This year's tournament features four teams: host U23 China, U23 Vietnam, U23 Thailand, and U23 North Korea, playing in a single-round robin format to determine the final rankings. According to the schedule announced by the organizers, the U23 Vietnam team will face U23 North Korea on March 25th, compete against U23 Thailand on March 28th, and then play against host U23 China in the final match on March 31st.
