Upon receiving an invitation from Football Federation Australia, the Vietnam U15 women's team will take part in the CommBank Emerging Championships 2026 youth football event from April 9 to April 15, a reputable youth talent development competition in Australian football.
The Vietnam U15 women's team will compete in the CommBank Emerging Matildas Championships – the category for U15 women's teams, held at the Home of the Matildas Centre in Bundoora (Australia). The participation of the Vietnamese representative is expected to bring high-quality matches, while also providing young Australian players the opportunity to test themselves against one of the region's leading developing women's football nations.
Vietnamese women's football is currently regarded as one of the leading countries in Southeast Asia in terms of development. Notable achievements in recent times include their first participation in the FIFA Women's World Cup 2023, reaching the quarter-finals of the most recent AFC Women's Asian Cup, along with multiple medals at the ASEAN Women's Football Championship and the Southeast Asian Games.
Participating in the tournament in Australia will not only help the young Vietnamese players gain more international competition experience but also contribute to strengthening the cooperative relationship between the Vietnam Football Federation and Football Federation Australia in youth football training and development.
According to a representative from Football Federation Australia, inviting international teams to the tournament helps enhance professional quality, while also creating opportunities for young players in the country to test themselves against various playing styles – similar to opponents they will encounter when advancing to national youth teams.
Alongside the Vietnam U15 women's team, this year's tournament also welcomes the U15 men's team from the JFA Academy under the Japan Football Association to participate in the men's category – the CommBank Emerging Socceroos Championships. This is a renowned football academy in Japan, which has played a crucial role in training top young talents in Asia for many years.
