The reason for Patrik Le Giang's absence from the Vietnam national team

Vietnamese-origin goalkeeper Patrik Le Giang, along with Dinh Thanh Binh and Nguyen Tien Linh, were initially included in the preliminary list but ultimately did not participate in the Vietnam national team's gathering for the FIFA Days in March 2026.

According to information from the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), goalkeeper Patrik Le Giang, after completing his nationality acquisition procedures, is currently under review by the relevant national football federations and FIFA regarding the necessary conditions for switching his representative federation and playing for the Vietnam national team, based on FIFA's current regulations.

Because the procedures are not yet finalized, the goalkeeper from Ho Chi Minh City Police Club is forced to miss this gathering of the Vietnam national team.

Previously, on January 28, the President signed Decision No. 91/QĐ-CTN granting Vietnamese nationality to player Patrik Le Giang. Currently, he plays as a goalkeeper for Ho Chi Minh City Police Club in V.League. The proposal for his naturalization was made by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism based on a comprehensive assessment of his professional skills, international match experience, and the stable performance demonstrated by this Vietnamese-origin goalkeeper in recent seasons.

Whenever the switch of representative federation is completed, Patrik Le Giang will be fully eligible to represent the Vietnam national team.

According to the plan, the Vietnam national team will assemble in Hanoi from March 21. Players involved in the quarter-finals of the 2025/26 National Cup and the postponed match of Round 13 of V.League 2025/26 will join the gathering later.

During this FIFA Days period, the national team will have an international friendly match against Bangladesh at 7:00 PM on March 26 at Hang Day Stadium (Hanoi), before moving to Ninh Binh to prepare for hosting Malaysia at Thiên Truong Stadium on March 31 within the framework of the final qualifying round for the 2027 Asian Cup.
