Vietnam national team assembles for March FIFA Days with several new additions

Notably, this squad gathers many experienced faces and also marks the return of key pillars who were previously absent due to injuries.

In the assembled list, many familiar faces continue to be summoned, such as goalkeepers Đặng Văn Lâm, Nguyễn Filip; defenders Duy Mạnh, Xuân Mạnh, Văn Vĩ; midfielders Hoàng Đức, Quang Hải; along with forwards Tuấn Hải, Xuân Son. These are all individuals who have proven their capabilities and played important roles in the national team's style of play in recent times.

Notably, this gathering sees the return of the defensive duo Đoàn Văn Hậu and Trần Đình Trọng, after a long period of injury treatment and efforts to regain form. The last time Văn Hậu wore the national team jersey was in June 2023, in a friendly match against Syria, while Đình Trọng has been absent since September 2022, in a friendly match against Singapore. This is also the first time both have been summoned under Head Coach Kim Sang Sik.

The return of Trần Đình Trọng is considered timely as this center-back is maintaining stable form in the colors of Hanoi Police Club, regularly playing and demonstrating his role as a reliable defensive anchor. Meanwhile, Văn Hậu, despite having only recently returned, has quickly made an impact with 1 goal and 1 assist in just his last 4 matches, showing this defender's readiness in terms of skill and form.

Alongside naturalized players who have already established their positions like Nguyễn Xuân Son and Cao Pendant Quang Vinh, this list also records the first-time appearance of midfielder Đỗ Hoàng Hên (Hendrio Araujo). This player officially became a Vietnamese citizen in October 2025, being highly regarded for his individual technique, creativity, and collaborative play style. Joining Vietnamese football in 2021 in the colors of Bình Định Club, Đỗ Hoàng Hên now has over 5 years of playing and accumulated experience in the V.League arena.

However, the Vietnam national team also suffers an unfortunate loss as veteran defender Bùi Tiến Dũng cannot participate due to injury, requiring approximately 6-8 weeks for recovery. Additionally, the defensive line receives positive news with the return of Bùi Hoàng Việt Anh.

The assembled list continues to offer opportunities to promising young players such as goalkeeper Trần Trung Kiên, defender Nguyễn Nhật Minh, midfielder Khuất Văn Khang, along with two other potential faces, defender Phạm Lý Đức and forward Nguyễn Đình Bắc. However, this duo is not present in the March gathering due to serving a card suspension penalty from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) from the recent AFC U23 Asian Cup 2026.

According to the plan, the Vietnam national team will assemble in Hanoi from March 21st. Players participating in the 2025/2026 National Cup Quarter-finals and the postponed Round 13 match of V.League 1-2025/2026 will join later. During this FIFA Days period, the national team will have an international friendly match against Bangladesh at 7 PM, March 26th at Hàng Đẫy Stadium (Hanoi), before moving to Ninh Bình to prepare for hosting the Malaysia national team at Thiên Trường Stadium on March 31st, within the framework of the Final Round of Asian Cup 2027 qualification.

Regarding the possibility of goalkeeper Patrik Le Giang after completing nationality procedures, according to current FIFA regulations, this player is currently under review by the relevant national Football Federations and FIFA regarding the necessary conditions for switching representative federations and playing for the Vietnam national team.
