According to AFC's decision, the Malaysian team was ruled to lose both matches that had taken place, including the match against Nepal on March 25, 2025, and the match against the Vietnamese team on June 10, 2025. Based on Article 25.1 of the AFC Disciplinary and Ethics Code, Malaysia was ruled to lose both matches with a score of 0-3 due to using ineligible players, regardless of the actual results previously achieved on the field.
In addition to professional penalties, the Football Association of Malaysia was also fined $50,000 by AFC and must complete payment within 30 days from the date of notification, as stipulated in Article 11.3 of the AFC Disciplinary and Ethics Code.
The adjustment of results led to significant changes in points and professional indicators in Group F. Consequently, Malaysia, from the leading position with a perfect record (15 points after 5 matches), lost 6 points, retaining 9 points, while its goal difference dropped from +14 to +2 (9 goals scored, 7 goals conceded). Meanwhile, the Vietnamese national team gained an additional 3-0 victory in the direct encounter, raising its total points to 15 and improving its goal difference from +6 to +13 (14 goals scored, 1 goal conceded), rising to the top of Group F with a perfect record after 5 matches.
For the remaining positions, the Nepal team was awarded a 3-0 victory over Malaysia, thereby gaining 3 points and improving its goal difference to -2 (5 goals scored, 7 goals conceded). The Laos team was unaffected by the penalty, retaining 3 points but ranking above Nepal due to the advantage in head-to-head results (defeating Nepal 2-1).
Notably, with a 6-point gap over Malaysia while only one match remains in the qualifying round, the Vietnamese national team has early secured qualification for the 2027 Asian Cup Finals. This result also allows Coach Kim Sang Sik and his team to early clinch the top position in Group F without depending on the outcome of the final match.
According to the schedule, in the final match on March 31, 2026 at Thien Truong Stadium (Ninh Binh), the Vietnamese national team will host Malaysia. Although no longer decisive for the final ranking, the match is still expected to be a noteworthy contest, meaningful for accumulating points on the FIFA ranking table, maintaining form, and preparing for the journey at the 2027 Asian Cup Finals.
