They gave their best effort! The Chinese women's football team lost 1-2 to Australia, missing out on the finals due to a goalkeeper's mistake.

On March 17th Beijing time, the Women's Asian Cup semi-final unfolded as planned. The Chinese women's football team challenged the host Australia. Through 90 minutes of fierce contest, China suffered consecutive counterattacks and fell 1-2, not only missing the finals but also losing the opportunity to retain the championship. Still, this Chinese squad did their utmost; they were genuinely less skilled, suppressed by Australia, and errors resulted from Australia's pressing!

The Chinese women's team advanced to the semi-finals with four consecutive wins, while Australia reached the semi-finals with four unbeaten matches. Interestingly, both teams defeated North Korea during their progression, securing World Cup spots early. We have not beaten Australia for 13 years, and our forwards' scoring ability is worrying. Moreover, Wang Shuang was suspended, so we faced immense pressure, making advancement to the finals very difficult!

After the match began, the Chinese team aggressively pressed early, repeatedly attacking Australia's defense to create chances, but the opponent's goalkeeper was too solid for us to break through. Being too forward led to defensive gaps. In the 17th minute, Australia scored on a counterattack, executing excellent coordination to breach China's defense. Fowler's cut-back pass brilliantly assisted Ford to open the scoring, putting China 0-1 behind. Subsequently, in the 23rd minute, Zhang Linyan was fouled in the box, earning a penalty which she calmly converted, quickly equalizing for China. The first half ended 1-1. Shortly after the second half started, Chinese goalkeeper Peng Shimeng hesitated in her advance, causing an error. After rushing out, she inexplicably retreated, resulting in Sam Kerr easily bypassing the keeper and scoring in the 58th minute, putting China behind again 1-2. Later, both sides made substitutions. China, fatigued and lacking Wang Shuang's explosive threat, saw their offensive danger diminish, unable to unlock Australia's defense, and lost 1-2, failing to reach the finals!

It must be said Australia's chance-conversion ability was extremely strong, their counterattacks very sharp, and they excelled at capitalizing on opponents' mistakes, defeating China just as they did North Korea. Actually, losing this match was expected, yet the defeat still feels hard to accept, since we had more overall opportunities than Australia, but failing to score is unavoidable. Mainly, the defenders and goalkeeper's level was too poor. Although we missed the championship, fortunately we accomplished the task of qualifying for the World Cup, so there's no need to harshly criticize them further!
