Vinicius Jr angered Manchester City with a controversial celebration.

Vinicius Junior executed a provocative celebration directed at Manchester City supporters after his goal gave Real Madrid the lead at the Etihad.

Real Madrid traveled to the Etihad with a 3-0 advantage from Federico Valverde's hat-trick in the first leg. In the return match, Manchester City started with determination, as Rayan Cherki and Rodri created chances that forced Thibaut Courtois to make crucial saves.

However, the turning point came when Real Madrid was awarded a penalty. Earlier, Vinicius's shot hit the post, and he followed up with another attempt from the rebound, but Bernardo Silva blocked it right on the goal line.

Initially, the penalty call was not granted as the assistant referee raised the flag for offside against Vinicius Jr. However, after VAR intervened and reviewed the situation, the offside call was overturned. Referee Clement Turpin then showed a red card to Bernardo Silva for using his elbow to block the ball.

From the penalty spot, Vinicius Jr, who had missed a penalty in the first leg, this time did not falter, deceiving Gianluigi Donnarumma. After running toward the away fans' section, the Brazilian star turned toward the Manchester City stands and performed a celebration with the gesture "cry, cry!", mocking the home supporters.

Earlier, Vinicius Jr had been constantly jeered throughout the match, and after the goal, he continued to be a target of criticism from Manchester City fans. This incident occurred just weeks after the event at Benfica, where Vinicius accused Gianluca Prestianni of using racially discriminatory language, following his goal and receiving a yellow card for celebrating.

Meanwhile, Manchester City fell 1-2 to Real Madrid at the Etihad, thereby losing 1-5 on aggregate after the two matches and officially exiting the 2025/26 Champions League.
