Chelsea fans were enraged after Liam Rosenior's triple substitution during the Paris Saint-Germain game proved ineffective almost immediately.
The Blues' strategist decided to take Enzo Fernandez, Joao Pedro, and Cole Palmer off the pitch right after the one-hour markwhen the team was trailing 0-2 in the Champions League round of 16 second leg. However, this adjustment instantly backfired as the West London side conceded a third goal just two minutes later.
Senny Mayulu increased the score, helping the reigning European champions lead 8-2 over two legs with a neat finish. The extremely short time gap between the conceded goal and Rosenior's substitution decision angered fans at Stamford Bridge, with many booing as the trio left the field.
One person wrote on social media X: “So Palmer, Enzo, and Joao Pedro come off for Garnacho, Delap, and Lavia… Well, that's it then.”
Another commented: “Bringing in [Alejandro] Garnacho, [Liam] Delap, and [Romeo] Lavia for Palmer, Joao Pedro, and Enzo is the worst substitution I've ever seen in my life. Just take Caicedo and Cucurella off too and be done with it.”
Another fan expressed frustration: “Joao Pedro, Palmer, and Enzo are taken off when we need six goals in 30 minutes. I'm so tired of the leadership appointing managers who can't handle big matches.”
Another remarked: “You bring Garnacho and Delap in for Joao Pedro, Enzo, and Palmer. This club is not serious.”
Before Chelsea conceded the third goal, many Blues fans had already left Stamford Bridge. A video captured by SunSport shows fans quietly heading home.
Before kick-off, Chelsea also drew attention with a rather unusual pre-match gathering, after they inadvertently allowed referee Paul Tierney to join their conversation in the previous match. In this game, Rosenior's players held their exchange on PSG's side of the pitch, but that did not have any positive impact on the final outcome.
