In the scenario of Greenwood's transfer, Manchester United is guaranteed at least a 40% share! Marseille seeks to circumvent through player exchange.

Reports indicate that if Marseille does not achieve Champions League qualification this season, they might be compelled to sell their leading scorer Mason Greenwood to prevent financial rule breaches. Currently third in the league and in the Champions League spots, they hold a mere 2-point advantage over fourth-place Lyon. Should Greenwood be transferred, Manchester United would gain a 40% to 50% share, owing to the retained economic rights from the initial sale of this homegrown prodigy.

In the summer of 2024, Manchester United sold Greenwood, who was controversial due to alleged domestic violence scandal, with Marseille acquiring 100% of his sporting ownership. However, economically, the Red Devils retained 50%. According to the contract, Marseille can purchase an additional 10% of Greenwood's economic rights. Thus, Manchester United's share from any transfer could vary between 40% and 50%.

While Manchester United fans dream of Greenwood fetching a €90 million or even €100 million fee, reports suggest Marseille would consider selling for around €50 million. To avoid the high share owed to Manchester United, they might opt for a player exchange deal.

Currently, Juventus is interested in Greenwood, aiming to pair him with soon-to-be-extended Dusan Vlahovic. Juventus showed interest in Greenwood back in 2024. They are keen on potential swap deals with Marseille, as they also lack substantial cash. The two clubs have close relations and could easily reach an agreement.

Juventus's Canadian forward Jonathan David, signed free from Lille, has struggled in Serie A and could be offered as part of a deal to Marseille. Kosovan winger Edon Zhegrova is another candidate; he also played for Lille and is familiar with French football.

If Marseille and Juventus proceed with such an arrangement, Manchester United's income from Greenwood's transfer would diminish. The 24-year-old has scored 25 goals and provided 8 assists in 38 appearances this season, with former Marseille coach even suggesting he deserves the Ballon d'Or. However, he hasn't been entirely happy at Marseille and has faced several controversies.

It is certain that all rumors about Greenwood returning to Manchester United are unfounded. Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS have no intention of re-signing him amid controversy, and Manchester United doesn't need a right-winger inclined to solo play. Ratcliffe only hopes Greenwood joins another club for a higher fee, maximizing United's profit.

Spanish clubs could fulfill Manchester United's wish; Greenwood revived his career at Getafe and favors La Liga. Atletico Madrid, coached by Diego Simeone, has long been considered a potential destination. With Argentine international possibly leaving, Atletico could indeed compete for Greenwood.

Greenwood has played once for England but is now eligible for Jamaica in the upcoming World Cup. In August 2025, he obtained a Jamaican passport through his grandparents' origins. However, he hasn't yet played for Jamaica under coach and remains hesitant.

If he chooses to participate in the World Cup and performs well, his market value could change. Returning to the England squad is unlikely; the manager never considered him due to potential media backlash harming the team's preparation. Moreover, England has ample wingers.
