Vietnam's national team received a significant boost in the AFC Asian Cup 2027 qualification when their opponent Malaysia was handed a 0-3 defeat. Coach Kim Sang Sik and his squad not only secured an early berth but also established a notable milestone.
According to AFC's decision, Malaysia was handed a 0-3 defeat in matches against Nepal and Vietnam due to violations of player eligibility regulations. This penalty was also applied under strict disciplinary provisions, leading to a significant shift in the standings of Group F.
As a result, Vietnam's national team was credited with an additional 3-0 victory over Malaysia, raising their total points to 15 and moving to the top of the group with a perfect record after 5 matches. More importantly, the "Golden Star Warriors" officially secured their spot in the AFC Asian Cup 2027 finals one round early.
This decision also helped Coach Kim Sang Sik achieve a streak of 15 unbeaten matches with Vietnam's national team in official competitions. During this impressive run, the team won 13 matches and drew only 2, demonstrating considerable stability under the Korean strategist.

Coach Kim Sang Sik's 15-match unbeaten streak with Vietnam's national team
This achievement also brings Coach Kim Sang Sik very close to Vietnam's national team record of 18 unbeaten matches – a milestone previously recognized by FIFA during the 2016–2018 period under Coach Park Hang Seo. At that time, the Vietnamese national team maintained an unbeaten streak lasting over two years, before stopping at 18 after a loss to Iraq in the group stage of the 2019 Asian Cup.
Compared to his predecessor, Coach Kim Sang Sik is recreating the image of a well-organized and efficient Vietnamese national team. Previously, he also made a strong impression by leading Vietnam's U23 team to a 15-match winning streak in official tournaments, thereby securing the bronze medal at the U23 Asian Championship.

Coach Kim Sang Sik is only 3 matches away from Coach Park's record
Given the current form, the 18-match unbeaten milestone could very well be surpassed in the near future. If stability continues, Coach Kim Sang Sik could not only match but also potentially exceed the iconic achievement set by Coach Park Hang Seo, opening expectations for a new period of success for Vietnamese football.
