On the afternoon of March 18 in Hanoi, the Vietnam U23 national team continued training during the gathering period to prepare for participation in the CFA Team China – Xi'an 2026 International Football Tournament. Before the training session, young center-back Le Nguyen Hoang shared with the media about the team's integration process and preparations for the upcoming competition.
During the Vietnam U23 team's training session on March 18 afternoon, Acting Head Coach Dinh Hong Vinh still did not have a full squad available, as 6 players are occupied competing in the quarter-finals of the 2025/26 National Cup and are expected to join only after March 21. Nevertheless, the coaching staff effectively implemented the training plan, maintained the intensity of practice, and fostered a positive competitive atmosphere within the team.
According to the plan, the Vietnam U23 national team will continue training in Hanoi before finalizing the roster and departing to China to participate in the CFA Team China – Xi'an 2026 tournament, held from March 25 to March 31, featuring the U23 teams of China, Thailand, and North Korea.
Regarding the first day of the gathering, Le Nguyen Hoang stated that the whole team is still in the phase of familiarizing and adapting to the new pace of activities. "After the first training session, I feel the players are still quite new, not fully accustomed to each other. The team is gradually adapting to the requirements and training plan of the coaching staff," shared the 2005-born player.
Regarding Vietnam U23's preparations for the upcoming tournament, Le Nguyen Hoang mentioned that the coaching staff has conducted preliminary analyses of the opponents. They are all strong teams, so the entire squad is determined to perform well and accumulate more personal experience.
Le Nguyen Hoang, born in 2005, is regarded as one of the promising young center-backs in Vietnamese football. He previously featured in the Vietnam U23 squad at the 2024 AFC U23 Asian Cup finals at just 19 years old, impressing with his calm playing style, good situational reading ability, and high success rate in duels.
