Chelsea star suffers two 3-0 defeats in the same night

Mamadou Sarr faced a dual nightmare: his error caused Chelsea's defeat to PSG, and he lost the AFCON championship with Senegal after a disputed decision.

Mamadou Sarr experienced a nightmare night both at club and national team levels, committing an error that led Chelsea to concede against PSG and losing the African championship title.

Early morning on March 18 at Stamford Bridge, the 20-year-old center-back Mamadou Sarr was given the chance to start for Chelsea in the Champions League quarter-final match against Paris Saint-Germain. However, this turned out to be a forgettable performance by the Senegalese player.

Chelsea suffered a heavy 0-3 defeat, with Sarr directly responsible for the first conceded goal by allowing star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to capitalize and score. This mistake piled pressure on the young player, as The Blues were completely overshadowed by the French representative.

The tragedy did not end there. Immediately after the match concluded, Sarr received further bad news at the national team level. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) decided to strip Senegal of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) championship title and award the title to Morocco.

Three months earlier, Sarr was part of the Senegal national team that secured a 1-0 victory over Morocco in the final held in Rabat. However, Morocco filed a complaint, arguing the match should have ended immediately when coach Pape Thiaw requested Senegal players leave the field to protest a controversial referee decision.

The controversial situation stemmed from the referee awarding Morocco a penalty in the final minutes, after disallowing a late goal by Ismaila Sarr for Senegal. Although Brahim Diaz missed the penalty, Senegal still won thanks to Pape Gueye's extra-time goal.

However, upon review, CAF's appeals board sided with Morocco and awarded a 3-0 win to the North African representative, meaning Senegal was stripped of the title.

This shocking decision left fans stunned. On social media, many expressed confusion and outrage. One fan wrote: “He will enter history in a way no one desired.”

Another commented: “It's truly unacceptable.”

Meanwhile, many acknowledged this was “an extremely difficult moment” for Mamadou Sarr.

Senegal has declared it will take the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) and firmly refuses to return the AFCON trophy.
