Vietnamese-Australian midfielder Khoa Ngô is making a strong impression in the V-League, but this player still cannot wear the Vietnam national team jersey due to legal procedural obstacles.
Joining Ho Chi Minh City Police Club on loan from Perth Glory (Australia) at the beginning of 2026, Khoa Ngô quickly made his mark in the V-League arena. Developed in the modern football environment of Australia, the player born in 2006 brings a fresh playing style with speed, technique, and flexible ball-handling ability in tight spaces.
After only 5 appearances, Khoa Ngô has scored 3 goals. Notably, in all 3 matches where he scored, Ho Chi Minh City Police Club won. This achievement has led Khoa Ngô to be compared to the "victory talisman" of the police force club.
Everything started from his debut match against PVF-CAND, where he scored a goal to increase the lead to 2-0, contributing to his team's 2-1 victory. Not long after, the 20-year-old midfielder scored the only goal to help Ho Chi Minh City Police Club overcome HAGL. Just one week later, a similar scenario repeated when he again became the hero securing a narrow victory over PVF-CAND.
Khoa Ngô's soaring form not only helped Ho Chi Minh City Police Club improve its results, but also attracted attention from Vietnam national team head coach Kim Sang Sik. In the context where Vietnam's U23 and youth teams are seeking new talents for major goals like the 2026 Asiad, this Vietnamese-Australian midfielder is seen as a highly promising piece.
However, the biggest obstacle at this moment is not professional. Despite having parents and grandparents who are all Vietnamese, Khoa Ngô has not yet completed the citizenship application procedure. The main reason comes from the father's documents being insufficient for verification in the population database system, while the mother's side has completed the paperwork.
As expected, Khoa Ngô needs about 2 more months to complete the legal procedures if everything goes smoothly. This means he will miss the opportunity to participate in an important training camp for Vietnam U23, especially the CFA Team China 2026 friendly tournament in China.
Nevertheless, given his very young age and what he has demonstrated, Khoa Ngô still has plenty of time to develop and prove himself. More importantly, this player's desire to contribute to Vietnamese football is undeniable.
