Chelsea's internal turmoil erupts as Enzo Fernandez speaks out on the controversial mid-season dismissal of manager Maresca.
The heavy defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals not only hurt Chelsea's results but also exposed internal fractures. Midfielder Enzo Fernandez publicly expressed dissatisfaction with the leadership after the team went through a turbulent period.
According to The Sun, in a post-match interview, the Argentine star could not hide his disappointment with the club's operations. He stressed: "I don't understand. Sometimes there are things that we players cannot comprehend, how they manage everything." Notably, Fernandez also asserted that dismissing manager Enzo Maresca mid-season deeply affected the entire team—a detail showing internal conflict has become a major issue at Stamford Bridge.
Fernandez elaborated: “Clearly, that departure hurt us a lot… especially mid-season, it disrupted everything.” Not stopping at emotions, the 25-year-old midfielder also emphasized the professional value Maresca brought: “We had an identity. He brought order, even though football always has good and bad moments. But he always had a very clear identity in training and playing.”
In fact, Maresca helped Chelsea win the UEFA Europa Conference League and FIFA Club World Cup in his first season. However, his relationship with the leadership collapsed after public critical statements in December. The former Leicester City manager described it as “the worst 48 hours,” referring to the period between the loss to Atalanta and the win over Everton.
After Maresca was dismissed, Chelsea appointed Liam Rosenior. However, the situation did not improve as the team faces the risk of missing Champions League qualification for the third time in four seasons. Rosenior's modest coaching record further increases the pressure, in a context where the team remains unstable.
Amid the club's turmoil, Fernandez's future also becomes a question. He admitted: “I don't know. There are still 8 matches and the FA Cup. Then the World Cup, and then we'll see what happens.” With Real Madrid and PSG targeting him, this statement raises concerns about a potential talent drain.
Nevertheless, Rosenior quickly reassured the public by affirming the Argentine midfielder remains committed to the club. He revealed: “He is one of the captains… Enzo is very happy here, very eager to win.” However, what Fernandez said still clearly shows: the decision to dismiss Maresca is not just a professional issue, but also leaves deep repercussions in Chelsea's dressing room.
