Vietnam U23 Coach's Assessment of the Quadrangular Tournament in China

Coach Dinh Hong Vinh stated that the 2026 Xi'an Friendly Tournament is an excellent opportunity for Vietnam U23 to compete and accumulate experience.

On the afternoon of March 22, the Vietnam U23 team, consisting of 34 members including 25 players under the guidance of Head Coach Dinh Hong Vinh, departed to participate in the CFA Team China International Football Tournament – Xi'an 2026.

At the CFA Team China – Xi'an 2026 tournament, Vietnam U23 will successively face North Korea U23 (March 25), Thailand U23 (March 28), and host China U23 (March 31). Coach Dinh Hong Vinh noted that with the participation of high-quality opponents, this tournament is considered a valuable opportunity for young players to accumulate international competition experience, while also helping the coaching staff continue to evaluate and refine the team towards the key objectives of Vietnamese football in the upcoming period.

In this training camp, the team's composition combines players who have proven their abilities in youth teams over recent times with many new, promising talents.

This continues to reflect a clear trend of youth development, with the core consisting of players born between 2005 and 2007, aligning with the VFF's long-term plan to build a successor squad for the National Team and prepare personnel for important tasks in 2026, particularly the Asian Games scheduled for September.

According to the travel schedule, the Vietnam U23 team will fly from Hanoi to Guangzhou before connecting to Xi'an on the same evening. It is expected that the entire team will arrive in Xi'an early on March 23 local time, then quickly settle into accommodations and begin their first training session to adapt to the weather and field conditions.

The objective of the Vietnam U23 team in this training camp is to continue building a successor squad, as many key players have exceeded the U23 age limit or been promoted to the National Team. Currently, the coaching staff is focused on reviewing and evaluating the squad to prepare personnel for men's football at the 2026 Asian Games in September, with the core being players from the 2005–2007 age group.
