Arsenal midfielder Eberechi Eze will be unavailable for the forthcoming England national team gathering, having suffered an injury ahead of the Carabao Cup final match with Manchester City.
Eberechi Eze was included in Thomas Tuchel's 35-player list announced late last week, but he could only observe the defeat to Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final from the stands.
When asked whether Eze would later join the England squad, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta responded: “No. He is absent. We need to reassess after six or seven days and await the results. It is a calf injury.”
Soon after, multiple sources reported that Newcastle midfielder Harvey Barnes has been selected to replace Eze. Notably, Barnes declined a call-up from the Scotland national team after manager Steve Clarke attempted to summon him. The winger, born in Burnley, qualifies to play for Scotland through his grandparents, but he wishes to represent the "Three Lions."
Regarding Arsenal, the London club has not secured any additional trophies since the FA Cup victory in 2020, but currently leads the Premier League by more than nine points and is poised to enter quarter-final matches in both the FA Cup and the Champions League.
Arteta stated: “What this team has achieved over the past eight months is remarkable, and we will harness this disappointment and determination to aim for the two most outstanding months we have ever experienced together.
That depends on us, and we will channel that energy appropriately. Now we must endure this pain and disappointment, which is normal and part of football.”
During the 90 minutes at Wembley, Nico O'Reilly made the most significant impact. The star, also called up to the England squad, broke the deadlock in the 60th minute, then headed home from close range four minutes later, helping Manchester City secure their fifth Carabao Cup title under manager Pep Guardiola.
After this match, Manchester City will have over a week to rest before entering the major clash with Liverpool in the FA Cup quarter-finals.
