VFF President sets goal to enter FIFA top 100 as Vietnam national team climbs 5 spots to 103rd globally.
According to the latest FIFA update, the Vietnam national team has advanced to 103rd in the world, ranking 18th in Asia. This is seen as a positive step for the Golden Star Warriors as the team prepares for a series of important tasks in 2026.
Immediately ahead for the team are two matches during FIFA Days, including a friendly against Bangladesh and a crucial match against Malaysia in the final round of Asian Cup 2027 qualification. Chairman Tran Quoc Tuan emphasized that these matches are not only professionally significant but also directly impact the goal of reaching the top 100 in the FIFA rankings, requiring the entire team to maintain high concentration and maximize their capabilities.
The improvement in Vietnam's ranking comes from additional points related to the match against Malaysia in the second round of Group F, Asian Cup 2027 qualification. This is a pivotal factor, helping the team regain advantage in the FIFA rankings.
Previously, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) decided to award a 0-3 defeat to the Malaysia national team in both matches against Nepal and Vietnam. The reason stems from the team violating player eligibility regulations, directly affecting the results and related points.
Due to this decision, the Vietnam national team not only regained 13.91 lost points but also increased its total points to 1,213.62. This achievement helps the team rise 5 places in the FIFA rankings, moving closer to the goal of entering the world top 100 in the near future.
Speaking at the meeting, Chairman Tran Quoc Tuan highlighted the importance of the upcoming two matches, including the friendly against Bangladesh and the encounter with Malaysia in the final Asian Cup 2027 qualification round. He requested the entire team to maintain focus, enhance professionalism, follow the coaching staff's tactics, and aim for long-term goals such as the ASEAN Cup, the 2027 Asian Cup finals, and further, the next World Cup qualification cycle.
