Cristiano Ronaldo has updated his injury recovery status, following his absence from Portugal's squad for the March friendly matches.
The 41-year-old superstar has been sidelined since early March due to a hamstring issue. Consequently, he was not included in the list of 27 players called up by coach Roberto Martinez for the final two friendlies ahead of the 2026 World Cup, where Portugal will face Mexico (March 28) and the United States (March 31).
This is considered a cautious decision by the coaching staff, as Ronaldo is still recovering and requires more time to reach optimal fitness.
Despite missing the national team call-up, Ronaldo continues to train actively for an early return. On his personal Instagram page on March 23, he posted a series of gym workout photos with a brief caption: “Improving every day,” indicating positive progress in his recovery.
Previously, the Al-Nassr striker suffered a hamstring injury during the 3-1 victory over Al-Fayha in the Saudi Pro League on February 28. Since then, he has not played and traveled to Madrid for intensive treatment to accelerate his recovery.
Although unable to participate in the March friendlies, Ronaldo remains a key figure in coach Roberto Martinez's plans for the 2026 World Cup. The North American tournament is likely to be his final World Cup appearance, offering CR7 his last chance to win the biggest prize in national team football.
Coach Roberto Martinez reassured fans about Cristiano Ronaldo's condition, confirming that the superstar is still part of the plan for the 2026 World Cup.
In an interview after announcing Portugal's squad for the March friendlies, the Spanish strategist stated that Ronaldo's injury is not serious. He shared: “He is not at any risk. It's just a minor muscle injury, and we believe Ronaldo can return within one or two weeks. His physical performance this season shows he is in very good shape.”
