VPF has permitted clubs to register a maximum of 3 players aged from 15 to 16 years old, rather than just 3 players who are fully 16 years old.
On the afternoon of March 26, 2026, at the conference hall of the Vietnam Football Federation (in Hanoi), Vietnam Professional Football Joint Stock Company (VPF) held a meeting to deploy preparations for organizing the National Professional Football Championships for the 2026/27 season.
Alongside matters related to the competition plan for the 2026/27 season and the draft Technical Regulations for the 2026/27 season, representatives from functional departments of the VFF also disseminated key points from the Vietnam Football Regulations (issued on November 21, 2025), the amended and supplemented Disciplinary Regulations (2026), as well as licensing activities for the new season.
According to the draft Regulations, the 2026/27 season will introduce significant new features regarding player personnel rules: Notably, clubs are allowed to register up to 3 players aged between 15 and 16 years old (as of the registration date for the competition). This adjustment is more liberal compared to the previous rule which only permitted registering a maximum of 3 players who are exactly 16 years old.
VPF's relaxation of the rule for registering under-16 youth players will provide an opportunity for many talented young players to be promoted to the first team early and gain experience in the V-League arena sooner. Clubs with strong youth academies such as Hanoi, PVF CAND, SLNA, HAGL, and Viettel can soon showcase new-generation prodigies, allowing promising young talents to accumulate match experience early.
At the meeting, some contributing opinions and questions requiring clarification were also raised. The conference organizers listened, considered the feedback based on current regulations, and will respond in writing later. For issues needing clarification, the conference organizers and participants exchanged views, providing thorough explanations and transparent information to avoid unnecessary problems.
The preparatory deployment meeting for the 2026/27 season plays a crucial role, serving as an occasion for VPF and clubs to jointly study, discuss, and reach consensus on core matters. This helps clubs proactively plan their personnel and technical preparations optimally, aiming for a successful 2026/27 season that elevates the quality of the National Professional Football Championships and builds momentum for the future development of national team levels.
