On their opening day, both Vietnam U23 and Thailand U23 achieved draws against North Korea and host China.
For Vietnam U23, the red-shirted team started proactively, scoring an early goal to lead, but could not preserve the result as North Korea equalized late in the match. Nevertheless, through this match, coach Dinh Hong Vinh tested many positions of the Vietnamese team, aiming for improvement in the second match.
Meanwhile, Thailand U23 had a regrettable draw against host China. In the first half, the young "War Elephants" performed impressively and scored two goals to lead. The strength of the Thai players still came from coordinated plays and good chance utilization. However, in the second half, they allowed the host team to regain control and accepted a 2-2 draw.
In the upcoming match against Vietnam U23, Thailand suffers significant personnel losses as center-back Inaram is injured and right-back Thiangkham is suspended. On the other side, the Vietnam U23 squad essentially has no cases of overly serious issues.
Given that this is only a friendly tournament, the head coaches of both teams do not overly emphasize the final result, instead focusing on evaluating technical aspects and player performances. Nevertheless, a victory would certainly be a significant morale boost for the red-shirted team.
