The Iran Football Federation sent an urgent letter to FIFA after numerous infrastructure facilities were destroyed, forcing many teams to cease operations.
The Iran Football Federation (FFIRI) has officially written to FIFA, calling for emergency support after many football facilities in the country were severely affected by escalating conflict in the Middle East. The letter was signed by President Mehdi Taj and sent directly to FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
According to the disclosed content, Iranian football is facing significant losses in physical infrastructure, with the most severe being the Iran National Football Center.
“Due to military conflict in our region, many citizens and young players have lost their lives, and sports infrastructure, including the National Football Center, has suffered serious damage.”
This center was a symbol of Iranian football development, originally built with support from FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation. However, after attacks, many facilities such as training pitches, futsal areas, fitness zones, and accommodation blocks have deteriorated. Some major stadiums, including the Azadi sports complex, have also been affected at varying levels.
The direct consequence is that numerous football plans have been disrupted. “This has not only led to the cancellation of training camps for 18 national teams, but also threatens the development plans for many generations of players.” Teams ranging from men's, women's, futsal, and beach football have all been forced to suspend activities.
Given this situation, FFIRI leadership has made a specific appeal to FIFA. “I urgently call upon you… to dispatch a team of experts to assess the damage, protect the rights of affected athletes, and organize commemorative activities at the international level.” This is seen as a move to seek both technical and financial support, while maintaining Iranian football's connection with the international system.
Despite suffering many losses, the Iranian side affirms its determination to sustain football activities. Recovery plans are being considered, but the lack of infrastructure and external influences make this process challenging.
FFIRI's appeal for help occurs amid escalating conflict in the Middle East, impacting not only military but also spreading to civilian areas such as sports. However, as of now, FIFA has not issued an official response regarding this letter.
