China U23 coach Antonio Puche commented that the Vietnam U23 team made a distinct impression at this year's friendly tournament.
On March 31st evening, alongside the Vietnam national team match, the Vietnam U23 team led by coach Đinh Hồng Vinh played their final match against China U23 within the framework of the CFA Team China 2026 friendly tournament. Ultimately, the red-shirted squad suffered a narrow defeat with a score of 0-1.
In this match, the coaching staff continued to make significant personnel adjustments with six changes in the starting lineup compared to the previous game. This move aimed to provide playing opportunities for many young players while also serving the purpose of evaluation and squad selection.
Vietnam U23 started confidently and created some opportunities in the early minutes but couldn't convert them successfully. Meanwhile, China U23 gradually increased pressure and scored the opening goal in the 39th minute through Du Yuezheng's long-range shot.
In the second half, Vietnam U23 pushed forward to seek an equalizer. Goalkeeper Cao Văn Bình continued to be a highlight with several crucial saves, while the attack also created some notable situations but lacked finishing accuracy. Despite great effort in the final minutes, Vietnam U23 couldn't score and accepted the 0-1 defeat.
Sharing after the match, China U23 coach Antonio Puche made some assessments about coach Đinh Hồng Vinh's team. The Spanish strategist stated:
“Vietnam U23 shares a similarity with China U23 in using many players aged only 19–21. However, they maintained control of the game at many moments, and that left a distinct impression at this year's tournament."
Regarding his own team, the strategist offered much praise: "The whole team played well in this match. Overall, I am very satisfied with the players' performance at the tournament."
“During the days of international matches in June, we will continue our training and match schedule, followed by the final preparation phase for the Asian Games," Coach Puche added.
